Soapstone or alabaster

I'm wanting to buy some soapstone or alabaster or another type of stone that's good for carving. Something around 4"x4"x12" blank or bigger. I've seen online people carve stone and I wouldn't mind giving it a go. I've only carved wood. Where I live there's neither so hopefully one of you good guys no where I can get some or know of a different kind of stone that's easy to carve and turn. Thanks

Your best bet is to hook up with your local lapidary club or go to a Gem & Mineral show. Usually there are plenty of knowledgeable folks at these that are willing to help you find what you need.
