Have an antique syrup kettle that was out in the weather for several years. How do i go about preserving it? Do i "season it" like you would cast iron pots?

Get it off the dirt. PEople lean them on a tree or something like that a lot.
The moisture in the ground can eat a hunk right off the rim.

Keep it dry and under roof. IF you were going to boil syrup, I would wire brush the daylights out of it and then wash, then oil.
But if you just want to keep it, store it better.

PS, I have sold 5 or 6 over the last few years. From $600 to $1400. So, if you aren't doing much with it, they fetch good money depending on size.
