While we're on the subject, are take down bows typically louder than 1 peice bows?

Depends on who makes them. They don't have to be. If the tiller/timing is correct with a decent string it should be pretty quiet.

I've never owned a takedown myself. A while back I was watching a video of someone reviewing a take down bow and said it was loud (I couldn't notice it) and stuffed some cotton or something somewhere that could vibrate where the limbs attach and that fixed the problem. I would imagine just from an engineering standpoint that the more separate parts on the bow the more chance for vibration/friction/etc. making more noise.
