We Floated the Oconee!

We have been planning this adventure for some time and finally this morning it came together! Mike Farmer and his partner Danny Blair met me at the Greenway Park in Milledgeville at 7:00 AM this morning.

I brought my own partner with me and our plan was to float the Oconee River from the park down to the Central State Boat Ramp.

The water was up today and the float itself took approximately 1 ½ hours.

The Oconee River originates to our north in Hall County and flows 220 miles south to Lumber City, Ga. There it meets the Ocmulgee River to become the Altamaha River. From Lumber City the Altamaha flows east and eventually spills into the Atlantic Ocean.

Four of us set out today and as far as I know only one of us had made this trek before. Danny had been, and Mike had not. I had not, and Max just wasn’t sayin’ either way. I knew it would be great, but it was so much more than I had even imagined!

Good Lord willing, you will be seeing more photos from this venue in the weeks, months, and years ahead but for today we hope you enjoy the photos!

I was raised on the lower stretch of the Oconee. About 12 miles up from the forks of the rivers.

Nice looking stretch of wat Cap'n. Did yall not take a fishing pole with you. I would have gone crazy going through that beautiful water without something to chunk near the bank.

I certainly don't want to harsh someone's mellow, but Mike and Danny might want to review the rules on boat registration before they hit the river again.
