weather buoy question

if the seas are expected to be 2-3 how does that constitute for inshore wave height. I'm fishing out of a 17 foot prodigy alum boat. I've got a few years of gulf fishing under my belt, I make sure to check the sea reports every time I plan to go as well as the tides. Just looking for a better understanding of how exactly to gauge what the weather is saying versus what is really going to be like in the grass flats. Thanks in advance

It's about wind direction. If its out of the North you're good in most of the big bend and panhandle. Just think about where you are fishing and what the wind prediction is. Another thing I learned was it can start from one direction and swing 180 degrees and you can fish days like that, the waves will beat each other down till it stabilizes.
Some days the prediction is just wrong. I go on 2-3 and sometimes it's perfect but you won't know unless you go.
My rule is check a flag to see how it's whipping before getting to the boat ramp.
