Just ordered a crystal mistress and was wondering what grit I should use to condition the surface.. all I've had til now is a slate call.

I prefer 120 . One of my son's calls came with 80 and it was to coarse my liking.

I find 220 to be too fine and I end up slipping after a while. I'm going to experiment with 140 but I'm no expert, just my 2 cents

This trick works for me.Give fifteen swipes with 80 grit, all going from left to right. Then make around thirty swipes with 120 grit going top to bottom. This will give you a cross hatching pattern on the call.

I'll give that a try. Might help my crystal. I've had a devil of a time getting the surface to run consistently.
