I was just at ICAST in Orlando and it was really cool to see all the innovative new products.
One of the coolest products that I think will change the future of boating electronics is a new product from Vexilar called Sonar Phone.
Essentially it's a transducer that emits a wifi signal that connects with your phone or tablet. The coolest part of this was that at ICAST they announced they are partnering with Navionics and adding their mapping to the Sonar Phone app. When I walked by the booth it looked just like looking at my Humminbird, but on an iPad!
I'll admit, I'm pretty much as happy as I can be with my Humminbirds on my boat, but with smaller craft this new technology is going to offer a very affordable, yet highly functional option for sonar/gps capabilities.
I really think this is going to be the future of electronics!
