Altoona Gar Fishing (PICS)

First gar trip of the year and I can tell this season is going to be a good one. A LOT of action already this summer and its only going to get hotter. You can find these fish on the surface in search of food. Sight casting is most productive right now. Look in coves with sand or mud flats and a creek near by. Sometimes you have to throw it right on their head but they will eat. Rope lures and flies are going work well. Cut and live bait is key as it will get hit the majority of the time.

(New mac won't let me upload pics at the moment, I could be doing something wrong. Will update this evening.)

I've never targeted them, but i've been seeing plenty too this year.

BTW, what did that red drum in your profile pic weigh? I just caught my pb last week when we were on vacation near Pensacola, was 21 lbs!

Here are threads from our Red fishing trip. Off Hilton Head close to GA/SC water line. Caught 5. Smallest was 35#, largest was 55#. Tarpon started to jump too but we had to pack it up to head in. Had a 45 min trip back.
