Laying them down again in Jasper County!

So it’s been a little while since I had the chance to shoot some hogs. I was getting ready for bed last night and suddenly decided that I ought to walk out and check the neighbors field when I woke up this morning. So I grabbed my trusty AR-10 with my new thermal scope at about 3:15 this morning and eased out to the field. I didn’t see anything when I got into the field but I spotted him when I got up in my ladder stand. One shot dropped him in his tracks. He was too big for me to load by myself so I had to wait until daylight for my neighbor to bring a tractor.

That's a great hog! Do you have a lot of hogs in that area of Jasper COunty? I live in Putnam County and I don't think there is much of a hog population in this area. I am in a club that is in the NE end of Jones County and have never seen hogs there either. I also don't hear much about hogs on Cedar Creek WMA. Nice Hog good eats!

We didn't have much of a hog problem in my area until about a year or two ago. They usually come and go so much that it wasn't easy to predict where they were going to be. Since February or so they've been staying in my area so I keep killing them. I trapped about a dozen total but they got wise to the traps very quickly. Shooting them with a rifle and thermal scope is about the most reliable method I've found. I wouldn't say that our population is high but it's starting to look like they're here to stay.
