New primitive crossbow

Hey, guys. I got the crossbow bug several months ago and started trying to make some out of natural materials. Here is my latest attempt. Prod is bamboo-backed osage with Fast Flight string. It pulls 67 pounds at 15 inches. The stock is walnut-stained maple with Bocote trigger mechanism and nut. I am shooting two-fletch 18” hickory bolts with stone points. I did use brass and aluminum an epoxy and Titebond, but most of the bow is traditional. Hope you like it

Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
My dad always talked about making one. He wanted to use a spring from a old buggy pulled by a horse.
Thanks for sharing.

One of my military mentors was a Vietnam Veteran and an advisor early in the war. He told me of going on patrol with Vietnamese Montagnards armed with crossbows. He had some pictures that showed them with the weapons. The Montagnards liked the M1 Carbine, but many of them had crossbows - they looked a lot what you have made... actually your looks much nicer. Thanks for posting.

Yeah I saw one made by the Montagnards while at Camp Evans back in '68. It was primitive looking at best but the thing would do damage. I also saw a home made rifle taken off an enemy soldier. That piece of junk actually had a piece of black iron pipe for a barrel...
