Who’s putting some seed in the dirt this weekend?

Planted 10 acres yesterday. What’s better? Planting immediately before big rains, germination and THEN drought - or - planting in dry soil, experiencing same drought and hoping for moisture soon?
I try and wait until I’ve got moisture in the ground and more rain coming, it doesn’t always happen but that’s why I planted last weekend.
If you plant into dry all you can do is hope for rain!!

Yep, i feel like if you get a good soaking rain then germination, as long a your soil holds moisture pretty good, then a little dry period after aint the end of the world.

Elfiii, dagnabit!!! We need to co-ordinate out plantings a little better!!! :)

Yep. Every time I was ready and able to plant it rained and every time I wasn't ready and able it didn't rain. Now it's switched the other way around. I'm ready and able so there's no rain.

We put ours in the ground in Screven county last weekend because we won't be back for a few weeks. Hope some rain comes, but dirt was moist.

It will. Drought of 2016 proved it to me. Seed was in the ground for over three weeks before it rained and it turned out fine.

Agree.. Seems like a lot of the years I plant, it stops raining for weeks. I, like you, use to panic but not anymore. Never had a food plot fail due to lack of rain. Now some have looked better than others, but never had one fail.

I’ve put in 10 since last Sunday. The first 5 were for friends. Put five of my own in today. A couple of mine are very small but 3 of them are about 1/2 acre each. Oats, AWP, and Frosty Berseem clover.

We are putting in a bunch this Friday but will be using a Great Plains 7’ no till drill. Things will be a lot faster now that’s in the picture. 0760334A-ADDA-42A7-B06E-3DBCA9F873FD.jpeg0760334A-ADDA-42A7-B06E-3DBCA9F873FD.jpeg0760334A-ADDA-42A7-B06E-3DBCA9F873FD.jpegBD087A75-84CF-4A4A-9426-B718E02D5D15.jpeg7D24ED36-2967-4546-8B56-57899A4B0509.jpeg

Sorry for the triple post on that one plot. It’s so pretty just thought y’all may want to see it over and over again?

You guys have some pretty plots?I’m still waiting. I’ve had a few burn up over the years in September. That,or Crows + Hogs find the seeds & carry them off. I think I’m going to mow + Harrow today…then be ready to put it in the ground just before the next rain. I just broadcast my small seeds & let the rain do the rest.
