Is the bear harvest data out yet. Just wondering. county by county who had the best year. This info also seemd good for interpreting where higher populations of male bear are harvested.

From what I see normally I agree rabun, gilmer probly atop of the list. To bad theres not much public opportunity in rabun from what I've found.

Rabun has tens of thousands of acres of CNF, low to high, easily accessible to extremely remote. The best mountain hunting in our state is Rabun County in my opinion. The overwhelming majority of it is not limited by the dates of WMA hunts, but rather managed as CNF.

yep lots of land. And lots of very rough land! Probably some of the biggest nastiest ivy thickets in the state! But you see how many big bears have been killed in rabun over the years!

I'm curious myself as to what the totals will be. My guess is gilmer, white and rabun will be close in the top numbers.

I'm used to hunting around helen, good area but popular. Looking to get outside of that area and do some scouting. Normally I just take the family, put them in a hotel in helen and hit the woods. Sometimes when it's just me I will ride up and camp out on a mountain top on nf. That way I'm there and no driving in early spooking game out. This is good only if you expect to be the only one in the area.

But yes...would like to see the kill by county numbers as well. I believe it was a good year for N GA bear hunters last year. And since the only bears I ever saw had cubs, i think it will continue.

I hoped Mr. Killmaster would chime in once it was avialble. He seems to stay on top of the bears in ga and was able to provide last year's for me but now I can't find him on my page to message him personally about it. Hopefully he will come across this thread and provide it when it's comes available. Mr. Bond is also very helpful and informative but he deals more with the peidmont region and we all know none were harvested there. Maybe one of them can help us out with this soon.

I also heard from a friend that all the mountains in the east part of the state are straigh up n down and you need to be an expert rock climber to hunt there.

Your friend is correct. Half the mountains are straight up, the other half are straight down.
