The Lord has blessed us doubly this year with no late frost and abundant moisture so far. This is our main fruit tree plot with 5 jap persimmon and 29 pear. All planted 2009-2016. Oldest is the one behind my son on the Mule. Its a docs special from Edward Fort nursery (now Hallman). Doesnt look like it, but it’s 40’+ tall with lots of fruit.
The rest are loaded again, a bit more than last year. Most all from the wildlife group. Have 5 Dixie delights in this mix- best pear I’ve planted. Excellent eating and no blight/disease whatsoever.
Need to prune even more fruit and branches, obviously. Not enough time in the day….41CA8F1C-A9BC-4E41-8EAF-309745FD9312.jpegE720DB83-FD5C-4357-96A4-7E953C9B09FD.jpeg1370675F-1CCE-4FC0-AF1B-7ADC2CB8598D.jpeg5798293F-8588-4DC9-8E19-93EBA291D8A5.jpegE878485D-5B1B-4254-A546-B358F11C37EE.jpeg8EF233F0-14AE-4F34-8558-40C6097B0823.jpegAD9F3117-FD08-42E2-801B-601B459DA285.jpeg4B8A1626-91E9-4A12-96AD-E41C86E96E55.jpegB16D8D91-BE59-4B00-8FAB-2B4D5547FC37.jpegC76C858B-3F74-4414-98B0-6DE2C9F8372B.jpeg

That is a very pleasing sight!

Well done!

We planted 52 pears and 100 sawtooth on 2019 and are now just waiting patiently.

The “drop” of several pear varieties started a few weeks ago. They’ve been tearing them up, especially the Dixie delights.
Us too. Picked a bushel of Dixies this past weekend for home and friends.
Dang good and we’ll be harvesting them for another month.
The Oct-Nov-Dec varieties are loaded as well.

I've been looking at the Wildlife group catalog...I finally got approved for my CRP which includes "wildlife openings" that are supposed to be planted in wildlife friendly items. I would say these pears are friendly to the wildlife!! LOL

Tell me more about Dixie Delite, may have to plant one for preserves
The write-up on the dixie delights @
https://www.wildlifegroup.com/shop-for-pear-trees/
says it all. Like an asian pear. Crunchy, sweet, and ya better have a napkin for the juice.
Start ripening first of Sep and go through mid-Oct for us on the coastal GA plain.
No disease, no fireblight whatsoever. Heavy producer year 4 and beyond.
As mine are planted in an orchard with multiple other TWG (and other) varieties, pollination is not a concern.
For pollination of the dixie delights, suggest planting other TWG varieties closeby such as mckelvey, ledbetter, and senator clarke / others.

Thank you very much, I’ll see about getting one or two this fall.
