Neil I come here t check on ya! You aint got a buck yet???!!!!!
I'll be on the other side of Long creek in Wilkes for hopefully a whole week starting Friday.
GOOD LUCK TO Y'ALL!!!
Chad, no luck on deer, seen tons this year, best year for seeing deer in 10+ years. Just no bucks seen to get real excited about to take safety off. Have let a couple 105-110 deer walk, just need something a little bigger. Having a fun season regardless, have taken out 4 hogs and a Yote so I am getting to pull the trigger quite a bit, LOL..... I will be in the woods starting Saturday thru Wednesday non stop, so looking forward to more fun.

Todd, we used Firetower in years past, as well as Gregs. I have no experience with Nature Harvest since they bought from Firetower. I do know they appear to stay very busy. If I get it deer or hog nowadays, it goes to Greqs or to Apple Valley. I hate to drive all the way back to Jefferson to AV, but they do a standup job. Last 3 deer we've taken ended up there. Gregs was not taking deer was one of the reasons we begin using AV.

My hunting this year is similar to what Buford Dawg posted. I have seen so many 2.5 year olds, a couple of 3.5 year olds, most 8 and 10 pointers, but not that special buck I want to take to Andy, my taxidermist. It has been a very enjoyable season, but I am fixing to take a break as I have been hunting 4 days a week since bow season opened. Pretty much had 800 acers to myself.

I used Natures Harvest last year, agree with Tight Lines comment. They did a good job on a wild hog when they first changed ownership. Last years buck left a lot to be desired. Living in Oglethorpe, I do my best to do business in this county but its not always the best option.

Haven't used any processors in Oglethorpe. My go to is Greg's in Danielsville, since they are pretty close and are good people.
I used to take mine to the processor up in Banks Co, they do a great job, just a heck of a drive if ya shoot something in the evenings.

@Todd E , yes sir them baked eggs leave something to be desired for sure. However, that tenderloin and egg biskie sho nuff good at 5am in the mornings.. :)

All I did was use it to chill a buck overnight.
You couldn't pay me to use that place. Gross.

I make the run to Homer. ;)

I used the place formerly known as Firetower two seasons ago, for the buck I killed right at thanksgiving, I was NOT impressed, I was on a time crunch that evening as I was supposed to be back home for Thanksgiving the next day, so it was convienent , otherwise I wouldn't have gone there , pretty sure I didn't get my deer back, or at the very least I didn't get all of my deer back

Here's a question regarding buck weights in Oglethorpe county...

What is the weight of each of the following on your property?

- Button
- 1.5 year
- 2.5 year
- 3.5 year
-4.5 year +

I know what we see, curious what you guys near us see?

I'd venture to guess our buck weights on the hoof over the years as follows:
- 3.5: 165 to 175ish
- 4.5: 190 to 200ish

4.5 yr olds hard to come by.

Gotta update our year here in the next day or two with pics. Last week was epic as far as bucks seen when I was there from Tuesday afternoon thru Friday. Wednesday of last week was perhaps the greatest sit I ever had. Full draw twice and tension on the string a couple of other times but never got the shot I needed or got busted trying to draw.

So far: 8 yr old grandson got his 1st deer 2 weeks ago. Lil knot head. He will remember that hunt for the rest of his life. So will I.

Oldest grandson arrowed one of the older deer we have killed in 10 years with a jacked up rack. 4 on one side with a huge knarly spike on the other that we've had for past 2 years. Finally got him killed.

Oldest son killed a nice 8 Sunday morning. Multiple 2.5 n a few 3.5 yr olds passed. As many bucks as we've ever seen but a whole lot of 1.5 and 2.5 yr olds. Same story every year, even after we think we have a good inventory of 2.5 n 3.5 yr olds at end of season.

Brooks is chasing a sho-nuff good one behind the house here in Oconee County but hasn't connected yet. Hard to get him to the Oglethorpe property with what he's been on behind the house.

I'll get pics posted up in a day or two.

That’s the frustrating thing about letting all these deer go. Seems like that most you never see again and your hunting 3 year old deer mostly. Just wished some folks would hold off the trigger and let them get to 4.. happy yall are having a great hunt and things are going good keep it up folks…

We are trying to get a better perspective on statistics. Especially, now that large amounts of protein are being thrown at the local population.

Four sets of teeth have been pulled and sent off for cementum aging. Must know their true closest age to apply the data.
I agree we got 4 ourselves be sending them to the state biologist to do the same in meriwether

You doing it the right way. We got a set of fake jaw bones from QDMA years ago that supposedly show age from 2 to 10 and use those as an estimate. And if we choose to have it mounted, the taxidermist estimate.
