2024 Poult Survey

Last year seen several hens with poults.
This year have not.
Hen in back yard by herself this afternoon.

Couldn’t count them, in some clean hardwoods, but very large with multiple adult hens. These were larger than a game chicken, around the size of a laying variety. Fully feathered.

These 2 lost 4 awhile back but these 7 have been going strong

Saw 4 gobblers and one hen with 6 grouse sized poults today driving to check my cams

I almost took out a hen and about a half dozen or more fuzzy yellow hatchlings trying to cross Nelms Rd Last week

In my neighbors yard this morning. 2 hens and 9 or 10 poults if they haven’t lost any since I saw them last week

1:1 ratio sightings are def not good. Better than nothing, but you gotta know a pile of adult hens lost their lives in the pursuit of motherhood, so we need some bigger groups out of the survivors.

This year has had some gully washing rains in south GA, so I know that could have well been a major obstacle.

Had four hens and nine or ten half grown poults in the backyard this morning. They were eating sunflower seeds under the bird feeder.

Saw 2 hens with 3 (possibly more) quail sized poults in Polk county this morning.

Don’t know turkey biology, but with so many very young poults this time of year, are they breeding, laying and hatching all through the summer?
