The trophy size trout are on the move. Now is the best time of year to find them moving through the public waters. The couple days following a good rain is best. I made this video for my clients to put the odds in their favor.

Yes, all different bodies of water. The striper may have been on the Alabama side of the border.

Never, WNC is going to be your best best, but even then you might have better odds with the lottery. If you’re willing to make a quick flight out to Denver you can get them pretty easily with a modestly quick drive if you really want one.

It’s tough, but once you see enough train wrecks of people making mistakes, you’ll gain a little more faith in your gear and technique.

Wild tiger trout are rare as hen's teeth. NC stocked some a few years ago, so there are occasionally some hatchery ones out there.

Plenty of hatchery tigers in the west. I catch them in the Uintas in Utah.

I got one years ago, and sent a pic to the NC DNR. They said that they don't stock them in that stream, so it was a wild tiger that came from natural reproduction. The ranger asked if he could use the pic in his presentations, as they are so rare, and I of course said yes.
