Blackpowder Basic's

I can't afford one of the fancy in-line guns. I bought a cheap CVA Bobcat. It fires caps on the nipple with a cock back hammer.

I am shooting FFg Goetz Blackpowder, with Buffalo Bullets(I think 245gr). Got me some hot german caps from Deercreek Gunsmith.

Question:

Do I need to lube the barrel every shot?(I have lube)

Do I need a patch? If I do, do I lube the patch?

I've heard I should start with 90 grams of powder and work up but not over 110 grams. Does that sound right?

Thanks for all your answers.

That sounds about right for a side lock. You do not need to lube the barrel each shot but the bullets need to be lubed if they are not pre lubed. Most Buffalo Bullets are pre lubed. You should not use a patch with these bullets either.

AF, Thanks

Flinger, thanks I was thinking what you said. I spoke with the gunsmith at Deercreek and he agreed.

I called CVA and asked them I I could use the pellets. They said no only powder. I bought the 2F for reenacting, so might as well use it for hunting.

The bullets are pre-lubed.

Thanks.

He is right, don't use the pellets in a side lock. Not enough fire will get to them for consistant ignition. Good luck.
