Sounds like their fishery management program is about as good as what we have here in NC. Its not only Bluefish many salt water species are in big decline. Some scientists say if we keep raping the Oceans like is happening all over the world today by 2050 the worlds Oceans will be largely depleted of most species of salt water fish.
 
I have heard for years that bait fish populations were WAY down up and down the east coast of the US and in the GOM. I don't know if there is any data to support this BUT there is data suggesting that 97% of the historical high population of Menhaden no longer exists. If Menhaden are down others are probably down also. When bluefish get scarce on the Atlantic coast, enough to suddenly impose new regulation, there is something definitely going on. Those things used to be a nuisance they were so thick.

Its a real thing. Those Asian trawlers and factory ships take everything they can.
