Fellas, I’m fixin to check one off the lifetime list. Bit the bullet a year ago on Father’s Day and booked my spot in Bill Oysters class. Well one long year later, it’s finally here. Start Monday morning at 8:30 AM and I can’t wait to get to Blue Ridge Sunday! Anyone else here going to be in next weeks class?

I bet that will be enjoyable! I have a 7'6" Payne taper 4 wt blank and a couple books at home. I need to quit procrastinating and start building.

Day 1 8:30 to 4:30. Good group of guys. Started out with a cup of coffee and a piece of bamboo split in half.

After working the outside of the nodes, the halves were flame tempered to strengthen and determine how dark you want the finished product to be.

Then the inner nodes are removed and the halves are precisely split into pieces.

Then the outside enamel is removed, any remains of the inner nodes are filed away and the pieces are trimmed.

Today straightened with flame and vise.

Then beveled into triangle shape and baked for 30 minutes.

Then sanded butt sections. Tip sections beveled again and sanded. This part is scary because you’ve put in a lot of work and the pieces you’re now working with are super skinny.

Last, Set planing jig up for line weight, marked all sections and ready for tomorrow.
