Have tree services dump chips there and till it in
You cant till in fresh uncomposted wood. It will tie up nutrients untill it breaks down.
You can make compost out of it first and them use it. Or spread it on top of the soil as mulch, but dont till it.

I've done it for 30 years. To build foundation soil from newly turned dirt theres nothing better than wood chips and leaves. His garden will be aerated, rich, and filled with microbes and worms in short order.

Nitrogen depletion is highly overstated. If you see signs add urea. Personally I've never seen those signs

He is correct.....

The thing the op needs to realize is if he wants to amend the soil it's going to take 18.5 cubic yards for a 3000sqft garden. I'd pull a soil test and just head out from there and not worry about trying to get 18 cubic yards of compost turned under.

Thanks for all the recommendations fellas! Keep them coming. I’m hoping to find something within about 45 minutes of the perry area, but May end up just having to drive to get some for cheaper. I’ve got a couple mountains of fresh cut wood chips at my moms house which I hope will become good mulch/compost in the next couple years, but I really want to get this soil kick started now.

Maybe consider waiting for this free source to age

On a different note, I tried to send you a PM but it won't let me for some reason. Is that your feeder I keep hearing behind the pool?

Not mine. Must belong to the guy with the camera.

Where you located? I'm in Macon County and the powerline crew left me a bunch of the chipped up debris. It's not compost yet but it will be pretty soon. Be glad to load you some up if you want it...

Thanks for the offer mossyoakpro! I am around elko in houston county. I have a couple tons of woodchip mounds already. Was just looking for something ready to start improving soil immediately. I am going to start cover cropping with buckwheat and iron clay peas now and will hopefully have the soils conditioned for next spring

Since you’re near Elko, call J-lane nursery. They’re on 230 just outside of Unadilla toward Hawkinsville. They probably know where to get compost at a reasonable rate.
