Casting .50 lead for CVA with lee molds...

Any experience with casting lead sabots for a CVA 24" rifle?
Just orderd a mold and wondering if patches or lube will be required for best results.
Please advise.

Sabots don't need lube or patches.

What exactly is a lead sabot? I'm not familiar...

If you are talking about a sub .50 bullet to put into a plastic sabot of some sort, then no lube.

If you are casting a lead conical bullet, then a light wipe of crisco, or bore butter will be a good idea.

24 inch barrel most likely has a faster rate of twist and would benefit from a sabot. Some have a cup instead of a plastic sleeve, power belts and “cheap shot sabots” come to mind.

Should specify Lee 320 .50 lead mold. After casting rolled in a coating to give them some grease to slide better down the line.

Yes. Light wipe of Crisco, or Bore Butter. It don't take much.

The Lee 320gr is a lead conical, and a dang good one. Will FLATTEN critters.

I've got that mold, and another one around here somewhere, and have made the 320s myself.

They shot good in my TC Omega with about a 70 gr charge of loose powder. Black or Pyrodex.
