Anybody have a way to get into your climber when it is on a wide bottomed tree? You know, when the angle is much higher at the bottom than the hunting height - sometimes i feel like i would love a milk crate to get that first step up.

I have thought about a sturp or a collapsible stool to help get that first step up. Whatever it is i want it to be lightweight and easy to carry.

Any ideas?
I carried a couple of screw in steps

I run into that issue all the time. I raise the seat section extra high and grab onto it and step up onto the bottom piece and slip into the top piece from underneath. After you do it several times it becomes easy.

@HarryO45 Do you sit on the front bar of your stand the whole time in the tree or have some other seating system worked out?
I will send some pictures tomorrow. But basically i have cut everything off the seat except the part you sit on. All that stuff that goes against the tree is removed - trashed

Move the seat as far from the tree as possible and it is very comfortables. For me i lower the seat as low as it goes and the rails are right at my elbows. Kinda like i am in a lazyboy. I face the tree and can use it to steady the rifle. Easy to shoot around it, best if you have a short rifle. If something comes behind me i can rotate and shoot traditionally. I can also kneel and shot off the rest. The key is that the two sections are likely further apart than traditional away from the tree method

Cut my seats like this. Easier to carry into woods, less bulk and reduce trip hazard while climbing.

Notice tan strap - if i rotate 180 i can sit on strap. Its by no means as comfortable as the cushioned seat, but it works if something comes behind me i can take the weight off and get comfortable for shot.

I've bumped into that exact problem, chonky bottom trees that really slim down after 3-4 feet. I always carry an extra tether rope, I've found I can use that as a first step, I carabiner the end loop to the prusig to the end of the stand and then can adjust to the height I need. Once I'm up and sitting on the foot platform I can unclip it, or often as not just leave it there. Jumping is fine on the way down so I rarely use it to get down.

A better solution would probably be to tie loops to the front of the stand then attach a stepped aider with carabiners, or even permanently with a cord/elastic to tuck it out of the way when carrying. I'll probably fiddle with it in the off season.
