Clybel Quota

Got picked but haven't scouted those fields in two years. They did a great improvement there a number of years ago so looking forward to scouting this weekend. Anyone walked the dove fields lately? Opening day is no longer a noon thing anymore is it? Shoot at sunrise?

Shooting starts 30 min before sunrise. Can get on the field 1 hour before sunrise. Not sure how the fields look this year, but last year seemed like too much corn that didn't do as good as other foods.

I drove by the fields on hwy 11. They looked pitiful. They planted corn beside the church this year but it was only 2 feet tall. If they managed those fields better there could be some great hunting.

Me and my son both applied with one point. He got picked,I didn’t. I didn’t think to apply as a group

Well doves have always been fickle. I got frustrated paying for hunts with no birds. At least if it is WMA you're not out $150. Only had one barn burner in my life down in Macon in the mid-nineties, it was amazing. It was a good thing to start opening day shooting at sunrise that never made any sense to me. I fished Clybel and drove around last Saturday and saw two doves, will go again tomorrow. Who knows... they may have covered up the place like they did three years ago when I saw 300 birds in an hour.

That's probably not corn. The last couple of years they planted sorgham sudan. That field is not really marked as a dove field and is not planted for doves.
The sorgham I’ve seen in other places is waist high and flowering. I expect they lost whatever was planted due to the dry weather and replanted corn. The other field on hwy 11 looked pretty bad

The dove fields down there have been corn and millet for a few years now. Think this is the 3rd year. When they were planting sunflowers and millet, they had great shoots. Not so much anymore. I drove by several weeks back and the fields looked really bad then with the exception of the millet, but looked like they had already started cutting it which seemed early.

The youth field typically does get some sunflowers, but even it has been mostly corn and millet. Have not looked at it this year.

I went Saturday until 0930. Shot three times and missed. There was a good bit of shooting but it is deceiving isn't it. I saw three birds, out of goose gun range, get shot at 14 times. 14 TIMES! They never flinched. Folks were well behaved and safe. Saw 15 turkeys and spied on them for 20 minutes, made my day!
