Do It All 14’ Jon Boat

I’m Back
Here's mine and how I set it up Alumacraft 1756 modv...I don't duck hunt. Tiller steer from the rear deck stand up. Polling platform (bimini draped over it) Grab loop and front casting deck. Boat fishes like a 19' CC. I throw in a seatamer bean bag for the wife when we fish. When we just ride, I have another one I can use on the rear deck and run the boat. What I miss since going to a jon platform, a live well for bait, there's actually good whitebait (shiners) to net in Apalachee bay. When I get the urge I have a 100qt aeration cooler I use. I've had some really nice boats, but can honestly say this one puts just as many fish in it as any. (on the flats)20220419_094449.jpg

Tiller and stick steering sure is nice if you want to fish in the rivers and creeks in middle Georgia. Turning around in my boat with a steering wheel is not always easy in close quarters like that.

What I work around is the tilt/lock lever. With the level deck and the motor under the poling platform it can be contorting getn to it sometimes in a rush! The forward/n/reverse lever too for that matter. I could eliminate a lot of the issue just removing the poling platform, but its my leaning post when I'm running

I have that same problem in my boat with a steering wheel. I don't have power tilt so if I want to raise the motor I have to ballet dance around the battery, gas tank, and back seat just to get the motor raised. That's why I'm going to add a back deck to mine when I start my boat rebuild next month. Give the back seat fisherman a better place to sit, add some storage, and make it easier to get back there.

Get you a 1648 mod-v or semi-v, with stick steering and a 40-50hp and be done with it. I've owned lots of boats in my life and this set up is the all around best. I can put mine in a pond, fish rivers and sloughs, coastal areas, and crappie fish at the lake.

If i were going to get a boat for all that, i would look at a 16x48 welded jon like the ones by tracker or lowe (https://www.trackerboats.com/jon/grizzly-1648-jon.html) already have a built in front and rear casting deck, more floor space for fishing and hunting gear without stepping over that center seat, more durable hull, higher weight limit, and won't take up much more space than a 14 foot john. much easier to outfit one of those for duckhunting or running crab traps and they're already well suited to bass fishing.
