Dove field

I have about a 10 acre dove field i planted in sunflowers in April that got destroyed by deer. quickly replanted most of it in sorghum and millet with 20 rows of sunflowers up the middle. I don't have a lot of experience with sorghum. I planted it this year so I could get something in the field that the deer wouldn't eat down as soon as it popped up. How should i manipulate it? mow? mow/burn? Leave it standing? silage chopper? Just curious to see what others would do.

The silage chopper will do the best job. Sorghum is hard to kill down for burning with herbicide. It can be done but it’s a slow process. Will take a full rate of roundup about 3 weeks to get a good kill. If the seeds are falling out of the head on their own then just leave it standing.

Don't burn it. It will pop like popcorn and be useless for the doves...I know.
If it is clean between the rows I would just leave it standing and maybe chop a row each week to keep plenty of fresh seed on the ground.

Leave it standing and keep some clean dirt beside it
