Fertilizing standing small grain (oats) plot after the season

Thoughts on fertilizing some oat patches now?? They are browsed down to around just an inch or two and beginning to yellow a little. Would there be any benefit to putting a dose of fertilizer (nitrogen) on them now? Plans are too kill them sometime in the spring and drill through them with my summer mix. Would y’all just leave as is or what are your recommendations?

If the crop is being grazed that well some 34-0-0 would probably help. I think UGA recommends February application of nitrogen for wheat when used as wildlife plots.

I would wait. Yes it will help but a soon as it starts getting warmer the growth will explode. There will also be lots of other things to take pressure off of the oats.

If you have multiple plots, fertilize just one and see if you get what you want out of it.

Hit our oats with triple 10, they greened up great in one week. Also worked good on the radishes. We've had too much rain lately though
