yep yep- It wasn't just yes sir, no mam at my house either. We had to ask to be excused from the table, chew with your mouth closed, napkins go in our laps, elbows off the tables!! If you didn't follow these rules you were excused from the table without dinner (you were only called back to clean the kitchen)!
Oh, there were many more "manners" that were followed at my home growing up. Yes, I too had to pick my own switch.
You just don't see it anymore. It is a sad, sad thing.
I am 30 something and to this day I would not dream of not using respect for my elders, or anyone in authority.
