Great Morning - Proud Dad

My son (4 going on 5) has been showing more and more interest with going hunting with me. He’s like any typical 4 year old boy and is full of energy, doesn’t know what quiet is and can’t sit still for long. With the weather still warm I decided to give him a go with sitting with me at our hunt club. We got in at first light and walked up on some deer out in the food plot, he pointed them out and remained quiet and calm. Due to the dense fog a shot did not present itself so we went on with setting up. Couldn’t get our pop up blind to cooperate so we sat behind some brush to give us some cover. The deer eventually came back out and it was several babies and a button head, we just watched them, he again stayed calm and quiet and they hung around for a while. I finally got the pop up blind up and got re-situated. Some more small deer came back out and we again watched them. He was able to sit for about 2 1/2 - 3 hours and did pretty good. He had moments of blurting out and moving a bunch which was expected. Even though we didn’t get anything I was super proud of him and can’t wait for him to go more and more. Definitely spot on to Luke Combs’ new song Hunting by yourself. IMG_7280.jpegIMG_7281.jpegIMG_7291.jpegIMG_7296.jpeg

Sounds like he’s doing pretty good. I’ve got a 3 year old too. I’ve took him on a couple late evening sits this year. It’s pretty tough but he always wants to go when given the opportunity. I just have to keep the hunts short and go somewhere I don’t mind stirring the woods up a little. I’m planning on just easing him in this year and let him learn a little.

I brought my daughter out for her first sit at 4 too. If you haven't already, a tablet hooked up to set of youth electronic ear protection (silent entertainment plus ear protection) will help with the "boring" moments along with a bag full of snacks. 2 years later now snacks are expected and paramount to each hunt. I always save the best snack for last to squeeze another half hour+ out of of the hunt when she thinks she is ready to throw in the towel. Sometimes on a slow day just walking around and playing Elmer Fudd is fun for them too to break up the monotony. Good luck and keep at it. It's very rewarding to have a best hunting buddy.

Yep did that, had a soft cooler full of snacks and capri suns and his tablet with head phones. Tried to limit his use of it so he could enjoy nature.IMG_7290.jpeg
