I have found a work around threading small flies. I can see fine as long as I'm in good sunlight, but later in the day or a cloudy day these threaders work wonders.shopping.jpegshopping-2.jpeg

Just preload a few of your favorites. Each threader will hold 8-10 small thread midges. You can buy boxes that fit the threaders or just carry a couple loaded in a small box. The threaders come in different sizes, so be sure to get the midge ones. I think they are pink? The others are great if you have trouble just getting normal size flies threaded

Thank everyone for their input on Midges. My curiosity was piqued
on using Midges on Freestones in particular. I found a few articles
and members here helped me to identify a few opportunities where
casting midges might be beneficial.

Maybe ill cast into a backflow area around a deep pool
with a couple of Midges and see what happens!:))

I was anxious to head up to the Mtns later this week but looks
like going to be stormy. I hate to postpone because of a weather
report. Always seems inaccurate in those Mtns !!!! lol:)). However,
hiking 5 miles to sit under a tarp while appealing is not the same as
fishing and its been driving me nuts not to try midges in some of the
eddy's.

I wouldn't walk back in there this weekend. It's been coming some doozies here and there lately, and it's supposed to be a lot more widespread the next few days.

A couple more pics from this weekend. Most were caught on nymphs. One was on a hopper. Lots of rain this trip. Fished dry’s one day and nymphs on the others.

I once again thank the good people of NC for sharing their mountains!!

Day in day out I believe nymphs out catch any other fly.

I am developing a theory about how deep to fish the dropper when the water is stained. I have started a journal so I can look at all of the variables!

I usually catch more fish on dries in small creeks, but much bigger ones on average on nymphs. And they'll usually hit a nymph at the times they won't hit a dry.
