Help with sticky stock

I need help in getting this sticky stock cleaned. It’s a Browning Xbolt 280 with that rubbery type stock. I took it to a gun smith to mount the scope and sight it in. Don’t know who done it (wasn’t me cause it wasn’t that way before I took it) got something really sticky all over the stock as you can see in the pictures. How do I get it off without harming the stock? Any help or advice appreciated.

I don’t know what you’re dealing with there, on glue or adhesive I’ve had luck with WD-40 or Goo Gone.

I watched gunscrubber mess up a browning stock once. Made it a sticky mess. I personally used hoppies blast and shine on a 10/22 receiver and it removed the finish.

I had a butt pad get so sticky it would pick up pine straw. Turns out Limbsaver had a recall. Try calling Browning before you buy the new stock, which is prob what you're gonna do.

What's weird is that I bought this gun new about 7 years ago and I have never had an issue until I brought it home from the gunsmith. Evidently it was wiped down with something.

Got the same problem with my Browning A5 I wipe it down with talcum powder

If you can't make any headway with getting the gunsmith to rectify the problem and Browning has had issues in the past with sticky stocks in the past I'd maybe use that to my advantage and see if they'll replace it for free.

Sheesh, that almost makes me sound criminal.

Some rubber coatings get stick over time. Have had a Bushnell range finder and night vision binoculars do the same. Turned sticky. I was able to clean off the goo with some acetone I think and a lot of rubbing. Since they were way out of warranty, I didn't bother contacting them.

I would try Browning first, if it is a known problem. Maybe they will fix it.
