I've got a 50# horse bow, got it maybe 15 years ago from a knapper friend in Texas. I have killed one deer with it. It is pretty accurate and fun to shoot.

I've shot a few. They are awesome weapons, but are finicky, and take a learning curve to learn to shoot with a thumb ring. James Parker makes some great ones. And yes, absolutely adequate for hunting. Or conquering the Eastern Hemisphere.

I've never use a thumb ring with mine, just fingers.
Hard to do if you get a decent draw length with the finger pinch on a bow not much over three feet long. A lot of those horse bows are tiny, and have so much reflex that the tips touch or cross when they're unstrung.
