That’s what I’ve been reading gave him three Benadryl any advice on when to give him more?
This is for a healthy, young dog, 1 mg per pound is typical doseage. Liquid is to the far right

I try to snake proof my dogs when I get a chance to kill a rattler. I would do the same with a copperhead if I could get ahold of one every time I need one. Killed one on the carport last week. What I do with a rattler is cut his head off, he will still move and rattle and smell like a rattler. I have absolutely no doubt snakes smell different, especially to a dog. A NV would be better than nothing, but I want the real McCoy. I throw the snake out there in front of the dog and as soon as he gets a good look and sniff……I shock him good. I then get him to rattling and as soon as the dog alerts on the sound….I pop him again. I’ll then take the snake out of sight of the dog, tie a string to it and drag it laying a trail. I’ll cut the dog loose and go get behind a vehicle or building where the dog thinks he is not being watched. When he crosses the trail and picks up on it…..I hit him again. That way you have addresses all his curiosities, sight-sound and smell. It’s not a guarantee , but it will make you feel a little bit better about them getting bit. I done this same thing with my feist pup last week with the copperhead I killed. 2 years ago I had my cur out early season and he found a rattler about 20 feet from me. I make my dogs mind, I gave him a strong “annnnnt” and he backed up. There was about 8 inches between his nose and the coiled rattlers nose. We had a lesson right there in the woods. I seldom ever shock a dog, but I will light one up over a snake,it might save their life. My buddy had 3 beagles struck last week by copperheads. He always gives them children’s liquid Benadryl and pickling alum. He has had several rabbit dogs and hog dogs bit, he’s never lost one. I know the experts say it doesn’t counteract the venom, but I believe it helps with the swelling and that’s what blocks off airways. It’s working. By the sound of things, sounds like your dogs have learnt to hunt them…..that will be hard to break I’d imagine. I’m teaching avoidance more or less.

I had to relocate mine. Then I poured regular gas all over stone landscaping. Chased the out of the den. Just the smell and fumes got them moving. Wouldn't have anything If I hadn't seen them strike at the dog twice. Great pyr has alot of fur around the neck so I think it got a mouth full. But I ordered a catch poll off Amazon and I just snatch them up when I run across them. You have to be determined and forceful when you grad them. Not a collapsible on either. It is 60" and solid A/C aluminum. Got 3 adults out of that den so far and a number of young one's.

But the smell of gas will send them on their way. You don't have to light it.

Think I might make the investment in a catch pole. They are everywhere since the flood.

I have a colony of feral cats in my barn.
No snakes.
I’d rather have the snakes.
My DIL (hippie type) gives me grief every time I try to thin the cat heard.
There’s never a Haitian family around when you need them.

You can make you one pretty easy
I did make one out if pvc, non stretch line and a worm clamp. It just kept getting twisted up. I just got tired if doing the copperhead dance trying to get it and not being successful. Was going to put coated clothes line but said what the heck.
