Been a few years. I’ve ventured off from the trophy striper fishing only to punish myself by musky fishing in the French broad river in the winter and spring. What a rush. Nothing like being in a kayak 5 miles from a ramp, by yourself, no houses in sight, air temp below freezing, water temp 39*, and hook into a fish 4’ long with a river no wider than 75’ across. You haven’t lived until you’ve done that. Haha.

Hope all of you boys are well. I’ve learned to consistently catch redhorse suckers past couple years. I keep a dozen or so 16-20” fish at home in my big tank all year. If you have questions fire away. I may can help you snag a few.

The stripers are in trouble till fall. Tight lines

Good to see you again. Sounds like you've been having a blast.

That almost "permanent vacation" fishing MUST be tough.
 More power to 'ya I say. :bounce:

I would like some advice on "other than spawning run" Striper. Early summer, summer and fall if you have a chance to post. I didn't get my boat ready so I missed the last few weeks of good Striper fishing. My running partner with the boat we fish out of now don't go as much as I would like and can't get him off Crappie and big Catfish long enough to figure out the Striper in deep water. We caught a few dink Hybrid 2 and 3 weeks ago.

Striper is at least top 2, possibly #1 of my favorite freshwater fish to eat and the bigger, the easier they are to trim all the red out. Love that big flake white meat!

I have a couple of places to trap big Chub and rod catch all the hand size Brim I want. Never tried big Brim for Striper and Bluebacks ain't legal on Oconne. Easy enough to get Shad but haven't got a round tank organized yet. Good cut bait and sometimes I just snip the tail and leave them mostly whole.

Hopefully I can get to some of the lakes on the Savannah chain. I heard Bluebacks are legal on Lanier, too but haven't looked it up for myself and to many hot rod boats for me.

I'd take a Blueback any day where legal.
Live, whole or cut.

Congrats to your Son. That thing is a MONSTER!

I’m a big bait guy whether cut bait or pulling them live. I do more cut baiting than pulling boards these days. I finally come to the conclusion big fish are lazy and want an easy meal. You’re more than welcome to come hop on the boat one day this summer. Just holler.
