If your going out west.....

Just a heads up, dont drive at night right now. Especially if your going out to the Western Dakotas or Eastern MT on the small 2 lane highways. It just isn’t worth it. On another note, if your not planning on going, you should, because there are a TON of sharpies out here this year. Unfortunately there’s a TON of deer as well. Luckily, a small body shop in Glasgow got me taped and zip tied back together enough to limp my car 750 miles back to CO.

We limited 2 of 3 days, with half a limit in the heat and the wind on the day we didn’t. When the days wind wasn’t blowing, we were done by 1:00 both days.

I just got back last night. We hunted sharpies in the Sandhills 2 weeks ago, and they were tough to come buy in areas that had already seen lots of hunting pressure, and it was HOT! MT doesn’t get the pressure, so the birds aren’t as flighty, and there’s more of them. Once it cools down too much, or the snow falls, good luck with sharpies, it’s time to hunt pheasants at that point as sharpies will jump way before you get close.

I have heard good things about MT. A lot of what you said has been my experience as well, they get pretty flighty this time of year.

???. When I moved to Georgia, I learned the word “wild bird dog”. At first, I thought it was a dog that ran wild, but soon learned it was referring to the birds, not the dog. Out here, they are all wild bird dogs, because that’s all we hunt. Within a 5 hour drive from Denver, I probably have 3-4 million acres with 6 or 7 species of birds to hunt. It doesn’t suck. But you do need lots of dog power.

Everything but the 4runner looks good. On a side note I have a 4th gen 4runner also, and I was able to put a CBI winch bumper on it after I hit a deer for less than it cost to fix it back original.

The one in the picture is 6. We had to put her mom down this spring just shy of 12 years old. It broke my heart loosing her. This one has more motor, but needs some more bird work. I’ve only had her a year. Her mom, Georgia, was a once in a lifetime dog. Here’s a picture the last morning before taking her to the vet. I still
Miss her every day.

Second the driving at night! We witnessed a guy beside us hitting a deer last night and ended up running over the dead deer as we passed it. Tons of dead deer on roads between GA and SD!

With MO and IL in the rut, it was challenging.

My wife took these off our back patio last night. Should tell you all you need to know. Be careful driving out West right now.
