I don't think you are around people from the Caribbean an Mexico very in much in your neck of the woods.
I worked with a guy from Mt. Airy, NC. He said he was 12 before he ever even saw a Black person and that was on a trip to Winston.
Now they have slightly more Hispanics than Blacks.
  • White (Non-Hispanic): 82.6%
  • White (Hispanic): 5.37%
  • Black or African American (Non-Hispanic): 3.49%
I'm not sure why the demographics are so different from one place to the next. Probably a lot of different factors.

In regards to post 150 & 151, the first one seems like the touchy feely thing to do and tho latter seems like the reality to me. But I can see the point about our money is being used to build up China's military and other problems with the present situation.
I just don't think Americans are gonna swallow that pill very easily. We're not very good at sacrifice. Look back at the supply shortages during Covid, the lack of electricity during Helene, and the higher prices on gas and eggs.
People will not like higher prices, even if it is the moral thing to do and be better for America in the long run.

My feeling is that Corporate America is not willing to sacrifice. You would almost need a lot of government intervention to keep them from keeping their part of of the new market shares and bonuses.
We don't like to sacrifice as consumers, they aren't willing to sacrifice at all.
“Touchy-feely”?, OK. That’s why I’ve said we’ve let it go too long and the fix won’t come easy or comfortably. Or, we can make excuses and just watch ourselves sink into a politically correct third world society. With the incoming leadership we have the opportunity to make and implement the tough, but necessary, changes needed to right the ship.

Trump has been telling people for 30 years that the world markets have been rigged against the US for 30+ years. He knows how business and fair trade agreements should work.

There is something wrong when you can buy cheaper products from overseas than you can from here.

For instance….3 years ago I built my wife a barn door to cover the door way going into our master bathroom. I bought the tongue and groove pine from Home Depot in Thomaston Ga. I flipped the board over and it had a “Product of Switzerland” stamp on it.
Now I don’t how many of you know about Upson County, but there are many many many acres of timber company land in that area.
How is it cheaper to buy foreign lumber, ship it overseas, deliver it to a store, and sell it vs. buying something that was grown within a 100 mile radius of the store?
Our trade agreement with China is so skewered in their favor. China doesn’t buy our products. They don’t want our products, nor do they need our products. Other than the cities, the majority of China is extremely poor and self sufficient.
Trump has been saying this for decades.
We can thank Clinton for a lot of that. This county used to be full of factories when I was growing up. There are 0 now.

I honestly encounter probably at least hundred Mexicans a day. Know many by name and speak to them almost daily and coordinate work with them. I bet there are more here than there are down there. I work with and regularly interact with folks from all over the world, including Jamaica, The Dominican Republic, Haiti, etc. as well as folks from Africa, northern and eastern Europe, and Asia. You presume a lot about me and how sheltered I am.

Up here in western NC there are very few black folks outside the urban areas, but there have been loads of Hispanics for the last couple-three decades.

Levi's was in Fannin and Georgia boot was in Union. Put a lot of local folks out of a job/career when they left.
Same here with Dayco, Welco, Lee Industries, a tannery, Blue Ridge Fertilizers, and a bunch more. Half the county worked at the Dayco rubber factory.

I was listening to my Saturday morning lawn and garden radio show this morning just like every other Saturday and a caller called in named Jaime. Not like Jaime Foxx either, lets say that he had an accent.

He has a deer problem and is looking for ways to keep them out of his back yard. He said he was using left over Trump signs to deter them....'the deer must be democrats' by putting them on the trails leading into his yard.

I think it’s very presumptuous of you to come in and say something like that.

It’s also extremely selfish for you to come in here and complain about how you are affected by the fact your health care workers are leaving because Trump was elected. Either you are extremely cheap and paying way less than what American workers are paid, or they are illegal.
If they are illegal then they should not be here or allowed to stay.
There are millions of people that will provide health care for your mother.

Some of yall are insane. I lost both of my parent this year and although Ma when quick, Pop's passing was dragged out. Even though he was a 'garbage' human, he had horrible 'mediwhatever'. When he was in hospice in his trailer, he was met for 1 hour per day with an angel. He lives where construction is off the charts with more hispanics than blacks these days. Even in his crazy state of marbles, he never wanted me to be inside when these women were there. They were washing him. I connected with them on the back porch... we loved each other.

Only folks that ever came through the backdoor was black and female. I talked with them every day, we cried and laughed together. I made food for them, gave them sodas, water, anything they wanted.

Never saw the fist sispanic show up. Food delivery, when 911 was called, emergencies, etc. etc.

I love them but sometime stories dont add up. I have 'that' skin too, but sometimes the story dont make sense. IF it does, you have been lied to.

Yeah, I went through long, extended home health and hospice care and nursing home care with my mom, and extended home health and hospice care with my dad. Never saw a single Hispanic nurse taking care of either of them for whatever reason, even though we have places around here nicknamed stuff like "Little Tijuana." My ex-wife was a nurse. She didn't work with any Hispanic nurses that I know of.

I seriously doubt if Trumps election is going to somehow end the healthcare industry or deport legal immigrants.

OK I admit touch-feely was not the phrase I was looking for. I mainly was wondering if Americans are willing to wait out the change.

If given a choice, many Americans would take the easy path and sit home, collect a welfare check, and complain about those that are trying to do the right thing. Fortunately, they lost on Tuesday.

I just don't get your whole thought train. When I was growing up, the economy was strong. Most things we used were made here by our own people. There were no illegal aliens, Mexican construction or farm workers. There were factories in every town. You could buy a nice house for $20k. A new car for $5k or less. Groceries were cheap. $5 would fill up your gas tank. Most women didn't have to work. Almost everybody lived in a decent house that they owned, and most had land.

Now, we have all the above we didn't have then, and everything costs 10x more, most people don't even own their own home, and people struggle to make it with two-income households. Why in the world do you have any notion of a thought that it's better with the immigrants working all the jobs, and importing all our products from China? I sure don't. We have durn sure had to endure through "the change" for the last three or four decades, and it keeps getting worse all the time. If it gets worse in one direction, why keep going that way if it was a lot better where you started from?
