Been slim pickins until this morning. Our rut is just getting going, couple weeks later than normal. Had 2 does feeding around me at daybreak. About 15 minutes later, caught the ol boy slipping in on their back trail. 7 point, estimated at 160-170lb. Decent size buck for our area

Took a good friend of mine this morning, about 7:20, this beast walked in on him, and he kilt it. I’d be proud if this deer taken anywhere, but for us, he’s an absolute brute. 165lbs. Taxidermist estimated score at 130 +/-. I’ve hunted these woods for 30 years, never taken a deer of this caliber in here. I’m happy for him. On a funny note. I had killed the 7 point on the opposite corner of the property the day before. I was gonna let the area cool off, and had planned to sit where he killed this deer this morning till he asked if he could go with me. Story of my life???

I’m sitting adjacent to a prime bedding area this morning. I got in the stand a little early and had a blob walk through here before first light. Tried to scope it, but it just made the blob bigger?wind is howling ahead of an approaching storm system. Gonna stick it out a while, ya never know......

Poor timing on the weather. Feels like the Bahamas out there right now, and our rut is just getting going. I gave it up and came on home. Looks like a heat wave of sorts for the next week or so. Gonna let this storm blow through then get back out there soon. Thanks guys.
