Logging Roads, question for the experts.

We have 56 acres that was logged 4 years ago. The new growth is 6-10 foot tall. There is 0.7 miles of dirt road winding through this land. The property owner disc the roads that were almost impassable, last week. I put the Land Plane behind my tractor this weekend and now we have a super highway through the Clear Cut. It is about 16 foot wide. My questions are: Should I plant anything on the +/- 1.36 acres of road. What can I plant, in Black Gumbo type soil? That is reasonable, can be driven on (not to tall), and will grow without any soil test. It would be nice to spread seed with my cone spreader behind tractor, but I could sit on the tailgate, and use a hand spreader. Will 300 pounds of 10-10-10, or 17-17-17 be enough fertilizer? This would only be additional food for our deer.

Bahia. I would also sow some annual ryegrass with the Bahia to help keep the tilled roadway from washing until the Bahia gets established. 300 lbs of 10-10-10 would give it a start.

A consideration would be crimson clover. It wont get too tall, it will provide some forage for the deer and its pretty PH tolerant.

I actually thinking about Coker Oats, and Crimson Clover. The roads through this section of the club don't get that much traffic. Bahia will probably grow on it's own. It is growing on all the roads we have.

Your pH is probably very low. I'd go with a wheat, Coker oats, and cereal rye combo and maybe toss in some alyce and crimson clover and hit it hard with triple 13. You might consider some SoluCal if you have a sprayer of some kind and access to water. It's a good way to cheat on pH.

Clover,if you want it to come back. Winter Wheat & Rye are easy..since it’s already harrowed. Broadcast, fertilize, then drag it just enough to cover it. Unless it stays wet most of the time..Id hold off until you are about to for sure get some rain. Sept/Oct can turn off hot & DRY..for weeks..and weeks..:(. I quit planting until October because of it :)

We don't usually plant until October. We have 12 Food Plots, that we spend quite a bit of money on every year, not to mention the 14 feeders.
The road through the Clear Cut, probably wouldn't be hunted over, just looked like a good option for some additional attraction.
Yes I do have a 3 point, sprayer. Not to sure about the liquid lime. I'll do a little more research into it.

My barber has been using it for 15 years. He swears by it.
