I will start it off with my 10 day bowhunt in Southeast Iowa.Weather was TERRIBLE.I started hunting Nov 4th with temp in the mid to upper 70's.Lows were in the high 40'.The mornings started getting warmer as the week went on.Temps were like this for my first 6 days, wondering if I were in Georgia or Iowa. The rut was no where near what I expected,it was the weather right?Well a front came, dropped the highs to low 50's,and mornings to 29.Oh yeah,I thought.I got 3 more days, its gonna be on,,,,NOT.That first cold morning,I seen a good bit of action, but the big deer were on lock down I do believe. The last day I hunted, the morning started off at 22,with a high of 40,,,prime time I would think.Still nothing as you would expect for a cold frosty 22 degree morning in Iowa.I did see on the roads, jumped 1 buck bedded at 100pm,coming back to my cabin after a evening some biggggg deer.Beautiful country up there, its just a shame I have to wait 4 yrs to go back.Im not waiting,I think Kansas or Ohio is better from what I experienced.I know the weather had a big role in my hunt,so there is my experience in Iowa.Sorry for all the pics, just wanted to share some of the bucks I was after on the farms I hunted.FB_IMG_1605481032074.jpgFB_IMG_1605481022972.jpgFB_IMG_1605481007043.jpgFB_IMG_1605480997188.jpgFB_IMG_1605480987766.jpgFB_IMG_1605480963895.jpgFB_IMG_1605480977211.jpg

Welcome back.
Ohio, I can tell you, is not better than Iowa. Not even close. Kansas has less deer but a slightly better chance of killing a true giant.

How often have you hunted Iowa? 1st time? What zone? Remember how the weather was? Was all the corn out? I definitely wouldn't gauge the 2020 season on what Iowa has to offer.... Or Facebook for that matter

I will say this... It's very hard to stick with Iowa when you can only go every 3rd, 4th, or 5th yr. That's makes it very tough. But I get pics every year of 3 or 4 boomers or real close from my buddy who lives there. From locals who really just puddle with bow hunting and are mostly shotgun drive hunters

Iowa is now 5 years in Zone 5. Zone 6 can be drawn with just 3 points but that means every 4th year.

Last year in zone 5, there were only 4 hunters that drew with 3 preference points. That means there will be none in 2021 and that there will be a few who get rejected with 4 points making zone 5, at times, be a every 6 year trip.

Op,
Iowa is awsome. I have access to some jam up private land up there and had 2 buddies go up this year. They were successful but it was tough and they’re deer, while nice, were not Iowa monsters.

I have 4 points for Iowa and trying my best to get there. I did hunt 1.5 hours away in Missouri this year last week. Weather was terrible and I saw zero shooters at a well known outfitter. I have myself seen more deer and bigger deer in Ohio than in IL or Missouri.

Iowa is incredible. I just got back, I didn’t shoot; but was being picky. Still one of the best hunt trips I had. I found the weather didn’t have any affect on the deer movement, just more of an affect on my mind and what I thought should be happening. The deer still did the same things on the warm days as the cold days. We were in Zone 4 and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced deer hunting, other than the previous time I was there in 2016, lol. All that being said, if anyway wants or knows anyone that needs to do the lease sharing deal because one can go only every 4 or 5 years, shoot me a pm.
