There's gonna be a ton that I won't know, such a broad subject.I certainly don’t know that one….
He wasn't but Edson and Carlson were!!I couldn’t remember if Merrill was a Marine.
Nathan Bedford Forrest the 3rd!!Hint- Southern cavalry general.
When we get it, I'll have a follow up with ties to our civil war!Who was the only Marine Corps general to command an Army (briefly)? WW2.
Oh my gosh. I think it was 1972 or 3 but I'll never get that one by name.Who was the last confirmed Japanese holdout from WWII?
You got your mind right. There was a period of time in the early 70's where several showed up. The last was Teruo Nakamura who was of Taiwanese Ami ancestry and not Japanese at all but was part of the Takasago volunteer unit from Taiwan. He surrendered on Morotai on December 18th, 1974.Oh my gosh. I think it was 1972 or 3 but I'll never get that one by name.
I remember the last guy, crazy. Some dedication I'll say.You got your mind right. There was a period of time in the early 70's where several showed up. The last was Teruo Nakamura who was of Taiwanese Ami ancestry and not Japanese at all but was part of the Takasago volunteer unit from Taiwan. He surrendered on Morotai on December 18th, 1974.
The most famous holdout was probably Hiro Onoda who also surrendered in 1974 after his former commanding officer came to the jungle where he was hiding in the Philippines and formerly ordered him to surrender.
Do you remember reading about the last German soldiers to surrender and what they were doing and why it took them so long to surrender?I remember the last guy, crazy. Some dedication I'll say.
I never heard about that but I'm interested.Do you remember reading about the last German soldiers to surrender and what they were doing and why it took them so long to surrender?
It's a good story and the German CO wrote a book about it later.I never heard about that but I'm interested.
That's neat. Thank you for sharing. Tough to get home from the North Pole. Like the interaction between the Germans and Norwegians. People are just people wherever you are from, I've always thought! It's a good story and the German CO wrote a book about it later.
