Smart bombs just meant it had a guidance system. Could alter course after dropped. The genius of that period was a kit that retrofitted iron bombs with fins and a guidance system.
My BIL added the guidance systems and fins, loaded them on the planes and sent them on their way.

They dropped everything they had, Shock n Awe they say

Even looking down from altitude a broadside was impressive. I would not of wanted to be the Iraqi on the receiving end of that.

What US ship served in two theaters of war?

There were several.
The only surviving battleship to serve in both WWI and WWII is the USS Texas (currently in drydock). The Texas served in the Atlantic in WWI and participated in the Allies' landings in North Africa, the Med, and was off Normandy shelling the beaches on D-Day June 6, 1944. She then went to the Pacific where she served, often under fire or fending off Kamakazi attacks, until the end of the war.

That ship represents a great America that we need today. President Reagan realized that and used it to inspire respect and admiration to us and among nations. As a symbol it still inspires me, today’s technology has left it far behind but in its day it was a marvel. The mechanical computers for fire control were incredible.
