Moving on a budget

That's somewhat similar to what I am doing except I am renting the truck and have hired two laborers from Uhaul to do the heavy lifting and load it.

Good call. Once your over 35 (don't know if you are), it is my humble opinion that pizza and a case of beer is no longer adequate compensation to risk throwing out your buddies' backs to help you move on a budget.

These is what we did. Packed and loaded the day before closing so everything was mobile. Moved the Uhauls to the new house on closing day and all was good.

That's what we are doing. I have rented a 10X20 and are moving my fragile and boxes of the non-critical items to it, as well I have rented a large U-haul to move the big items with and will pack that up two days before the close and then move it to the new home after the close to unpack. I rented the truck for a week. Once it's unloaded I will drive it to the storage unit and move all the items from the storage unit to the new home.
