Murrells inlet

Hey I’m headed to Murrells inlet Monday to Friday for a golf outing but there is no way I won’t bring surf fishing stuff and some light tack stuff. We will be staying inside the gated area so I will have access to the inlet from shore I have never been so any help would be appreciated. Will strictly be shore fishing in the early morning and evening. Thanks

I've never fished Murrel's inlet, but I've fished a good bit a little ways down the coast from there. Bottom fishing in the inlet with cut mullet or squid should catch you a mixed bag, or casting something like a Gulp Swimming Mullet or Saltwater Assassin on a 1/4 jig head in the creeks and around oyster bars or other structure should catch you some reds, trout, and flounder.

Thanks the inlet looks good for flounder so will definitely hit when I have moving water out I guess may I should look at the tides. This is just a bonus trip between golf rounds but will be headed to St Simon in October with the yak for so fishing only fun.

I've usually done the best fishing from shore around both sides of low tide, or right after dead high tide when the water just starts moving back out.

If you do catch a keeper flounder, cut a few 2-3" strips (like the old school pork rinds). You'll never find a better flounder bait anywhere. They are cannibals ultimate! I've brought many to the net that never actually got up to the hook. They just would not turn loose. Also very tough so bait stealers like pinfish won't strip you on the first cast. They do great on a walleye jig as well, bounced along the bottom. Must retain a pretty good scent even after a good chewing as I have caught as many as four with one strip. Give them a try.

Sorry for slow report but have fished monday evening for a couple hrs then Tuesday afternoon for another couple and hit the beach today for about 45 minutes. Total catch has been 13 flounder 5 being legal size and a couple blue fish. I never made it to the inlet as the house we rented had a sea wall right out in front. Most were caught on mullet the were everywhere and super easy to net. I did get 4 on glup swimming mullet grubs on a jighead. Headed home tomorrow to try and beat the storm in atlanta right after last golf round.
