So ive camped out in the everglades off of boats a lot but that is really it.

we will be driving from St Simons back to South Florida after xmas.

I would like to avoid campGROUNDS (KOA, etc) and find a nice place with a camp SITE and some privacy that can be accesses by a car (reasonable walking distance) and allow us to do a campfire, tent, smores, the whole thing.

We dont need showers or bathrooms or RV hookups. we want to set up our tent and explore, hike, maybe do some fishing and grill some burgers on the camp stove/fire.

any ideas? really anything between SSI and West Palm, inland is fine. I know some of the springs in N Florida are amazing but i dont know which ones and i dont want to be sitting in a tent surrounded by RVs and throngs of people. we want some nature!

any advice would be great.

thanks

The Ocala Forrest has many campgrounds.
My favorites are Farrells prairie and Alexander springs.
Normally you can free camp in most of the Forrest but hunting season is on so that’s not an option.
