Need some help

I’m headed to Chattahoochee National Forest later this month to hunt. Never hunted there. I really like the Rabun County area.
I’ll be driving in and hunting a place to wilderness camp and little time to scout. Three day trip.
Recommendations?

I’ve been unable to obtain a map with the Forest service office closed.
So my plan or lack thereof is to drive to Rabun County. Take the road in front of the Forest Service office, look for a spot and set up camp.
Not a scientific method, but being ignorant of the Forest, it’s all I got ?

The only road in front of the forest service office is highway 441.

Sounds like getting lost may be a real possibility with your plan. Be prepared it is no joke up there. And make sure to not trespass. As a matter of fact make a more concrete plan before driving all this that way this is very dangerous terrain.

I’ve only been up that way for the Firefox museum. I just recall stopping at a Forest service office that was just beside the highway. I recalled a gravel road leading up the mountain from it.
I’ve wanted to come and hunt those hills since but this is my first opportunity.
I’m 67 years old and won’t get many more chances.
I wish the offices were open but......
I have a map off Amazon due Monday.
I’m not concerned about terrain etc, I have a lifetime in the woods.
I am concerned about being somewhere that I’m not supposed to be, as in private property.

The onX map app for your phone will show you your location and lands boundaries. If you're interested.

I'm not sure that road is actually NF. Let me know when you are coming and I will show you some places to start.

Dang nice of this fella as you haven’t scouted.
Good folk here!

Agreed. There are some fine people on the forum willing to help out. After my first hunt in the N. Georgia mountains earlier this fall, I have a deep respect for anybody who can consistently have success hunting up there. Good folks for sure. Good luck big bore, hope you kill a goodun.

It’s not all about the killing, it’s the experience. If I don’t see even a bear track I’ll still have a good trip.
To all that replied thanks.
Map will be here Monday, topo downloaded to desktop. When I identify where I want to go I’ll print the topo.

How did you find a good map on Amazon? Any specific search parameters?
