New regs for Blackbeard, Wassaw, Harris Neck and Savannah NWR 2024

The new regulations for Blackbeard and Savannah NWR are out. You can no longer use toilet paper to mark trails and there are no bonus tags - you must use your own. What is more troublesome is that they are no longer providing a way to get from anchored boats to the dock for liability reasons. It’s bad enough that we, the taxpayers, have paid for a dock that we cannot moor to (like we do on state property) - but how do they expect us to get ashore now? They used to provide a little jon boat that everyone used to get out to their boats - and it did not take up much dock space. What do they expect 50+ boat operators to do with the 50+ jon boats that they now have to bring with them to get ashore? Are they getting kickbacks from the charters now and trying to get everyone to charter? Is the management now overrun with liberal authoritarians who are power happy and trying to put an end to the hunting by discouraging future participation through over regulation? I imagine these island hunts are going to be a big mess this year unless everyone charters. The only rational solution I can see for anchored boats is for each boat owner to bring an inflatable raft or stand-up paddleboard to use to get back and forth. This is going to be even less safe than providing one jon boat for everyone to use - but what other solution is there besides allowing everyone to tie up at the dock? I can see people swimming in and bringing surf boards to paddle in on - but this will just give them another page of regulations to write to say that we can’t do that either. What’s next - saying we must bring a dinghy of a certain size that we can moor to the dock - but cannot moor the main boat??
Blackbeard dates are Oct 24-26 and Dec 5-7, Wassaw dates are Dec 12-14, and Harris Neck dates are Oct 3-5 and Nov 15th.
