So I have been looking at my local forage and gathering lots of info from the experienced folks here. At 50+ I am a newbie deer hunter. Hunting public land, I don’t have a corn pile Or even a lush food plot to hunt over. What I do have is forage. Here is an example of what some deer sign will look like when you are looking. I don’t have a pic of greenbriers but have found lots of it with log Green stems that have no leaves on it as they are a fave among deer. Here’s is a couple Pics from my yard. Feel free to post more pics if y’all have any.

The first pic is of a white oak, which is one tree we need to find(and should be able to)and expect the deer to be feeding on their acorns when they fall.......these are my scouting items among the obvious tree rubs.

I watched a doe walk right by me while I was sitting on the deck........she went right to the hosta! I yelled at her But she just kept consuming them.....then she looked at me with a “thanks” kind of look.

I could see a 2acre plot of hosta's. Might attract deer or some ladies looking at flowers. I know the rabbits have eaten mine before.

They love hostas, but everyone I ever planted at my old house got hammer the time the came up the next year and never made it. Its probably like iron clay peas, if you can plant enough they don't decimate it too early, then it works great.
We planted a good 75’ worth of hosta 13+ years ago and this short stretch is all that’s left, but it comes back strong every year.....It’s maybe 10-15’.I guess it knows where to grow.
