I used to hear them up around the pigeon river, I never saw them tho. Nice picture, thanks.
If they ever do it will cost you 1000 dollars for a license/tag.

I think Kentucky has a season. Seen Steven Rinella kill a nice Kentucky elk on tv a couple years ago.
We have quite a few now. I've seen herds of 30-40 at one time. I've come close to hitting a couple with my truck the last few years. No season yet, but it's coming. I noticed last year in the NC regs, they listed elk and gators as "game animals" for the first time.

There is way more than 200.
My eyeballs say different. I see them regularly. Herds of them, in far-flung different places. And a lot of them are back in the mountains and never come out. I run into those fishing and stuff.

I would think there were around 75 at least just in the Cherokee area. Ive seen some big herds behind the core buildings in those big fields.

They are starting to spread out more than you think.
I don't think anything.
The NC Wildlife thinks there is no more than 200 herd, thats all I posted.
