Offshore 1/19/22

A fishing buddy and I had scheduled a jigging trip to NC that got canceled on us. The sea conditions offshore GA were ideal so I had him come on up from Miami to fish on my boat. He hadn't been fishing in six months due to surgery on his knee so a jigging trip was definitely in order. So I also got Seanote to join us.

Decided we'd try for some meat on the way out so stopped at my triggerfish hole. Wouldn't you know all we caught there were those endangered red snapper! Moved on to multiple spots and we were catching at every location. Ended up with vermillions, trigger, red snapper, african pompano, almacos, aj's, a mutton, a couple of sharks, and a trumpet fish.

My buddy had asked me earlier in the day if we got yellowtails or muttons up here in GA and my reponse was "no yellowtails, but every once in a while a mutton." Wouldn't you know his last fish of the day was a nice mutton! (I had never caught one here.)

That Miami boy (or I should say MAN) could sure handle a jigging rod, I enjoyed watching him and BNZ in action. I learned a lot as usual and saw that anything will eat a jig if presented correctly.

Jigging is a great way to go. Live bait with 80 lb fluro I doubt you ever get close to a mutton bite! Something about that quick action makes the weary fish not so weary. Awesome Catch!!!

That mutton would make some of the best sashimi available on the planet just as soon as it hit the deck! Nothing like fresh fish, a little wasabe and a cold beer first thing in the morning on the deck of a boat.
