Oh so close!

Gone but not forgotten
I decided to try for a bear this morning. Ive had on and off foot problems all year. Im not in my normal shape. So the climb took longer and seemed a little harder than normal. But i allowed for that so i still got in place on time. I wasnt even set when i heard something. It was still not quite shooting light yet. I listen hard. Pretty sure it was deer. It didnt come close enough for me to see.

Fast forward about an hour. I can hear something across the hollow from me. Im trying to decide if there is a bear up in the trees over there. I hear something over my left shoulder. I picked my bow up and get turned. I see a bear. I quickly see its pretty small. Its in a group of small white pines. It lays down about 15 yards from me. Im like your kidding me, your not going to sleep there. I see it pick its head up and look down hill. I hear another bear walking. Another bear comes up the hill straight at me. Im shooting this one. He walks straight in or slightly quartering hard too me. He gets in the pines with the other bear. They start wrestling around. They moved around and theres a couple of seconds where i have a shot. But it disappears before i can even draw. The smaller bear kind of runs off a few yards downhill. I watch them for a few minutes and listen too them for 15 or 20 more before they move off.
Still a great cool morning to be in the woods.

I've seen cubs play fighting with their mother before. Once saw a 2 yr old cub repetedly running at its mother. She would bite at it. It would run away, make a u-turn, and charge its mother again and the whole process would repeat. I probably saw the mom and cub do this probably 15 or 20 times while I followed them down the FS road.

Could it have been a sow with a cub?
That was my thought when i read the story. Either way bet it was fun to watch.

Thanks guys,

It very well could have been a mom and her yearling. Id say the smaller one would go about a 100. The other 150 - 175. I havent seen many bears in person so im not sure. It muzzle was very scarred. It walked with this bowlegged kind of swagger that said boar to me. I could be totally of base though.

My foot is sore today. Dang it!
