Just got selected for the 3rd Ossabaw hunt (firearms) for 2024 - Nov 7-9. I was last there on a firearms hunt 2 years ago, and a primitive hunt in 2018. Have there been any major changes recently? Who else is going on this one?

Got selected for the first hunt this year, first quota I have ever been picked for. I have a couple of questions. Is it better to take the private ferry or your own boat. And the other is everyone assigned at area?

Depends on your situation. Kilkenny was charging $100 per person last year and for what they offer it's not a bad deal. You are not allowed on the island until noon on the Tuesday before the hunt. Usually guys are pretty good about whoever is on the island first gets to check-in first. There's usually a line of chairs in front of the check-in building that people put up as they get on the island. Once you sign in for an area it's yours for the hunt, but there are many guys that try different areas over the 3 days.

Preston, nothing has really changed. They were supposed to have rebuilt the dock and moved it closer to the shore this summer.

I’ve always taken my own boat to the islands because it allows me the flexibility to carry more gear - and to be able to leave early if necessary - especially if there is bad weather. You get to choose your area - it’s first come first serve. If you are first in line you can pick any area - and if you are last you have to choose from the areas that are not already taken. For Ossabaw you can arrive any time after noon on Tuesday. Then you put a chair ‘in line’ at the check-in station. Set up camp on Tuesday and take a walk if there is time. Check-in starts at 9AM on Wednesday morning. If you choose the walk-in area, or an area near camp you can scout your area after check-in on Wednesday. There is a meeting Wednesday evening - they will tell you what time the trailer runs will leave camp and what time they will pick you up each morning and afternoon. There are 3 trailer runs and a pickup truck run - they will tell you which trailer to board for your area. There are also some all day areas - you will need to pack a lunch and bring a cooler with some ice to keep game cool if you get an all day area. All day areas are last to be dropped off and first to be picked up. You can also change your area if you want to try a different one - just erase your name from the first one and then sign in to another area.
There is a game cooler, toilets and hot showers in camp.

My daughter and I got drawn, hoping to get her first hog.
CW, good luck to your daughter on her first hog. My youngest got his 1st, 2nd, and 3rd hogs on Ossabaw all within 2 minutes. I think he was 11 at the time. I hate to see that Kilkenny went up so much but I'm not surprised.

Yeah, I think it was $30-40 the first time I went to Ossabaw but that was years ago.

A buddy at work is taking his son to the island for the first time this fall.

I appreciate it, that's awesome. A triple right out of the gate.

I saw on a FB hunting post that the boat ride was going up to $150. I hope it is the lesser amount mentioned above.
